What have I done? Is this the right thing to be doing?

I paced back and forward along the edge of the sofa as Thorn bumped around in his room. I had no idea what he was doing, the last thing he did was run over and hug me, his bare torso sticking to me as he squeezed me harder and harder. It overran him with joy, his eyes sparkled now that I had agreed to work out a way to bring Audrey to justice.

My fingernails had become victims now, though. I chewed them nervously, shaking my head as I mumbled away to myself.

I was fucking scared.

Audrey had so much power, not only within this school but the surrounding community. She had helped build this school, she and her husband Thomas Alderville. Her contributions to the people around here were massive, and people don’t just forget those things. Especially in these surroundings, where money and power are literally everything. If you didn’t have either of them, then you were nothing.

And although I had always had neither of them, Thorn was different. He started at the top, but now, as I looked across to him as he scurried through a drawer at his desk, now, he was like me. Just another student in the school. Not even that though, he was trash, garbage...

“What are you doing? You’re stressing me out, sit down.” Thorn barked as he looked over his shoulder at me from across the room.

“I can’t,” I replied. I swapped the hand in my mouth so I had some fresh nails to chew on.

“Why are you so nervous? This is what you’ve wanted all term.” Thorn stated. He scrunched a piece of paper up and threw it over his shoulder as his voice beamed down into the bottom drawer of his desk.

“It is, I know. But I had never really thought it through. I never planned anything.” I mumbled.

My legs started to wilt, so I sat down on the sofa. My body wouldn’t allow me to sit still though, so my knee bounced up and down ferociously, allowing me to relieve some nervousness.

Thorn hummed as he moved from the bottom drawer to the second. He pulled out a long black cable, that had a small battery like block attached close to the end of one end.

“Have you found it yet?” I asked, peeping over to see him fighting with the tangled cord.

“Yeah, this is it, I think,” Thorn replied.

“I can’t believe you don’t use a laptop on a day-to-day basis. How the hell have you studied all these years?” I asked.

“With the old pad and pen, my techno-whiz friend.” Thorn chuckled as he strolled over to me and handed me the charger he had been struggling to find.

“Finally...” I clutched the charger and plugged it into the old laptop that Thorn had passed to me shortly after I agreed to his plan. “Where is your power outlet?”

We moved over to the desk and plugged the laptop in. We
